As part of Paris Fashion Week® Online, GAMUT unveils KEROSENE PARTY, a video created in collaboration with director Raquel Garcia, singer and producer Jazzboy and drag queen Messalina Mescalina, who shares five facets of her personality in the form of five characters. The historic muse of the GAMUT collective, Messalina Mescalina pours out her frustrations, desires and obsessions, implicitly tracing the portrait of a woman at war against normative diktats through the use of hybrid archetypes: a predatory businesswoman, an ambiguous dandy, a masked bather, a witch on a red carpet...
Revolving around artisanal femininity, these identity disruptions become the subject of an ironic and personal story, echoing the GAMUT SS21 collection. A “blank” collection constructed in a troubled context against a pandemic background and generalised disengagement. In lockdown mode, the fashion collective had fun throwing together pieces for Messalina Mescalina, inspired by iconic GAMUT creations and using only leftover materials found in the workshop.
Deconstructed suits, displayed tailoring techniques, bared interiors: the very collection accompanies the individual meanderings of Messalina Mescalina. GAMUT expands its range with pieces cut specifically for her: evening gowns and swimsuits make their grand debut in the GAMUT universe for this SS21 collection.
Somewhere between a documentary portrait and a parody, KEROSENE PARTY unfurls the aesthetic obsessions and political focuses of GAMUT in fashion that is more DIY than ever. In parallel, it announces the launch of .G, a clothing line intended exclusively for direct retail in its brand-new e-shop. A capsule collection of eco-responsible jersey pieces made in France from start to finish, printed with a photo motif of Messalina Mescalina. Available from 20 July on www.collectifgamut.com.
